Pathways Named After the Founders of Their Fields

Every Albayan student belongs to a class that carries the name of a Golden-Age Muslim scientist, and continues the work he began.

AI, Robotics & Machine Learning

Class Al-Jazari

Named after Ismail Al-Jazari (1136-1206), the master engineer of automata whose Book of Knowledge of Ingenious Mechanical Devices earned him the title of father of robotics.

Entry at JS1 Ages 11 to 12 25 places

Students explore how machines sense, decide and act. From programmable robots in JS1 to machine-learning models in the senior years, the pathway builds the mathematics, data literacy and computational thinking behind intelligent systems.

Embedded Systems

Class Banu Musa

Named after the Banu Musa brothers (9th century), whose Book of Ingenious Devices described over a hundred programmable machines a millennium before modern electronics.

Entry at JS1 Ages 11 to 12 25 places

Students learn electronics from first principles, then bring circuits to life with microcontrollers, sensors and actuators. The pathway moves from breadboard basics to complete smart devices designed, soldered and programmed by the student.

Computer Programming

Class Al-Khwarizmi

Named after Muhammad ibn Musa Al-Khwarizmi (780-850), the mathematician whose very name gave the world the word algorithm, and whose Al-Jabr gave it algebra.

Entry at JS1 Ages 11 to 12 25 places

Students progress from visual programming to professional languages, learning how software is designed, tested and shipped. By the senior years they build complete applications: web, mobile and desktop, with real users in mind.

CAD/CAM Design & Manufacturing

Class Ibn Firnas

Named after Abbas ibn Firnas (810-887), the Andalusian engineer and polymath who designed, built and tested a flying apparatus a thousand years before powered flight.

Entry at JS1 Ages 11 to 12 25 places

Students learn to think like product designers: sketching, modelling in 3D, prototyping and manufacturing. The pathway covers the full journey from idea to physical object using CAD software, 3D printing and workshop fabrication.
